چکیده

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of environmental factor such as month and season on the hatching features of ducks, and to determine the suitable months or season for hatching. For this purpose, the hatching records of different duck breeds raised in ElSerw water fowl farm belonging to Turkey and Water Fowl Breeding Research Department, Animal Production Research Institute, from 2002 to 2012 were used. Duck breeding farm practiced artificial incubation for hatching eggs. Data from hatching records were analyzed using SAS statistical package program. Fertility and hatchability of both total set and fertile eggs were investigated. The results revealed that hatchability traits for duck eggs were significantly affected due to varying the year month or season under Egyptian conditions. Fertility was significantly higher at months from January to May as compared to June to August months. It was significantly lowered by 9.70, 12.72 and 14.29 % in Summer as compared to Autumn, Winter and Spring season, respectively. Domyati, Pekin and Muscovy duck breeds recorded the highest value of fertility than other breeds. Hatchability of total set eggs recorded the highest value in March (65.21 %), whereas, the lowest value (34.96 %) was observed in August. Hatchability of total set eggs was significantly lowered by 14.45, 33.0 and 32.66 % for Summer as compared to Autumn, Winter and Spring season, respectively. Pekin, Domyati and Campbell had the highest hatchability of total set eggs followed by Muscovy then Sudani duck breeds. Hatchability of fertile eggs was higher in months from December, January, February, March and April as compared to other months, whereas, the lowest values were observed in August and September months. It was significantly lower in Summer by 6.95, 24.88 and 23.50 % as compared to Autumn, Winter and Spring seasons, respectively. Pekin and Campbell then Domyati duck breeds had the highest hatchability of fertile eggs followed by Muscovy then Sudani duck breeds.

Quality of Eggs and Hatching Traits in Two Slow-Growing Dual-Purpose Chicken Lines Reared Conventionally or on Pasture

The quality of eggs and the hatching traits of two slow-growing lines – La Belle (LB) and Bresse Gauloise (BB) reared under conventional or alternative system with pasture access were compared. The birds of both lines in the study were at the age of 27-37 weeks. Two-way ANOVA was used to assess the effect of the rearing system as well as the line on the quality characteristics of the eggs and h...

Variation in the hatching response of Ochlerotatus albifasciatus egg batches (Diptera: Culicidae) in temperate Argentina.

Egg hatching of winter-collected Ochlerotatus albifasciatus was studied for six months. Batches of eggs were divided into two groups, one of them was stored in the laboratory at 23 degrees C and 12:12 photoperiod, and the other in the field under dead leaves. Every month, from July to December, eggs from the two groups were flooded under both laboratory and field conditions. Unhatched eggs were...

Effect of Egg Weight on Egg Traits and Hatching Performance of Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo) Eggs

The study was conducted to determine the effects of turkey (Meleagris gallopavo)egg weight on certain egg traits and hatching performance. A total of 178 turkey eggs comprising of three different egg weight groups below 60 g (G I), 61 to 69 g (G II) and above 70 g (G III) were used for this study. Average egg weight (g), egg length (cm), egg breadth (cm) and egg volume (cm3) values increased wi...

Egg hatching dynamics and survival of immature stages of Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae) under field conditions during the cold season in Buenos Aires, Argentina

In temperate regions, the seasonal dynamics of Aedes aegypti (L.) (Diptera: Culicidae) is mainly influenced by temperature. It is assumed that, during the winter season, the population remains as eggs and that the development and population growth of surviving eggs begin during the following spring. The aim of the current study was to assess the temporal dynamics of egg hatching of Ae. aegypti ...

Artificial incubation of Muscovy duck eggs: why some eggs hatch and others do not.

This study was designed to gain insight into the influence of spraying and cooling, during artificial incubation, on the embryo metabolic rate and hatching ability of Muscovy duck eggs. Three times a week 93 incubated eggs were sprayed and cooled for 0.5 h at room temperature. Daily embryo metabolic rate was measured in 30 eggs with a water vapor conductance ranging from 1.15 to 2.07 mg/day-kPa...
